The Strength of God

O my strength, I will watch for you; for you, O God, are my fortress.

Psalm 59:9

This Psalm often strengthens me for the big obstacles in my life – death of my spouse, health issues, financial worries. The list for all of us can go on and on. However, as I am reflecting on this scripture and preparing for the excitement and the flurry of the holiday season (Remember when we all began the Advent/Christmas stress post-Thanksgiving? Courtesy of merchandisers, we now begin that same stress post-Halloween!) it dawned on me that Psalm 59:9 can strengthen me for the little obstacles as well.

It has me reflecting on things like – how to change my sprinkler system to weekly waterings, why I cannot sleep well at night, what gift to get my mother-in-law. I realize that the strength of God is there for me in the little moments, too.

God wants us to reach for Him and to wait for Him with confidence and knowledge that He will be there to protect us, secure us, and surround us with His love. Let’s do that today and in all the days to come whether our worries are large or small. He simply wants to meet us where we are and provide his mercy, strength, and safety.

Father God, our adoration for you grows and grows. Though we may look away from You as we busy our lives with other things, You remain right there for us. Our rock and our salvation. Help us to remember that simple truth. Amen.
