The Scope of Divine Teachings

78. All such teachings are concerned either with God, or with things visible and invisible, or eke with the providence and judgment relating to them.

St. Maximus the Confessor Four Hundred Centuries on Love: #78

Maximus the Confessor categorizes divine teachings into three areas: teachings about God, things visible and invisible, and the providence and judgment relating to them. These teachings encompass the entirety of divine wisdom and guidance.

Visualize a vast library filled with books of sacred knowledge, each volume revealing different aspects of God’s truth. The teachings about God illuminate His nature and attributes, those about visible and invisible things expand our understanding of creation, and those about providence and judgment guide us in living according to His will.

By immersing ourselves in these teachings, we gain a comprehensive understanding of God’s plan and our place within it. This knowledge equips us to live lives that reflect His wisdom and love.

Engaging with these divine teachings helps us to grow in our faith and deepen our relationship with God. They provide a framework for understanding the world and our role in it, guiding us towards a life of holiness and service.
